When battery overcharged, overdischarged, or short-circuited, the battery cells may be damaged. The BMS monitors its battery cells for overvoltage and undervoltage, for this protection purpose.
During the using of lithium batteries, each overcharge, overdischarge, and short circuit will reduce the battery lifespan. In serious cases, the battery is directly scrapped.
If there is no bms battery management system, the lithium-ion battery will be short-circuited and overcharged directly, which will cause the battery to bulge. In bad situation, will occur liquid leakage, pressure relief, explosion or fire.
The main function of BMS is to provide both deep discharge and overcharging protection. Besides, a balancer circuit is implemented. The control outputs for overcharging, deep discharge protection are conducted separately to screw terminals to allow the charging source and the load can be controlled separately. It played an important role in the performance of the entire battery circuit system.
